10-man Monaco left frustrated as Lille holds them to a goalless draw

AS Monaco failed to capitalize on the opportunity to establish a five-point lead at the top of Ligue 1 after Jordan Teze's second-half red card disrupted their momentum against LOSC Lille, resulting in a hard-fought 0-0 draw.

Having achieved their best start to a top-flight season since 1960/61, Monaco exuded confidence in the initial moments, with Aleksandr Golovin and Eliesse Ben Seghir both coming close to scoring early on.

The dominant hosts continued to generate numerous chances during a strong first-half performance, but Lille's goalkeeper, Lucas Chevalier, was resolute in denying attempts from Caio Henrique and Golovin, while Ben Seghir squandered a close-range header by directing it wide of the goal.

Eager to convert their pressure into a lead before halftime, Adi Hütter’s team missed another significant opportunity when Teze shot just over the bar following incisive play from Takumi Minamino.

Monaco's struggles in front of goal persisted into the early part of the second half, with Ben Seghir and Minamino coming agonizingly close to scoring the opener.

Lille received a significant boost shortly after the hour mark when the hosts were reduced to ten men due to a reckless challenge by Teze on substitute Gabriel Gudmundsson.

With the numerical advantage in the final 25 minutes, Bruno Génésio’s side aimed to turn the match in their favor. However, despite enjoying more possession, they struggled to create clear-cut opportunities as Monaco's defense remained resolute.

The closest chance for a dramatic late winner fell to the hosts when Denis Zakaria's low shot was parried away by Chevalier, allowing Hütter’s team to maintain their unbeaten start to the season and stay three points clear at the top.

Conversely, Lille will be disappointed with their inability to create more opportunities in the closing stages, as their winless streak in away league matches against Monaco extends to 13 encounters (D8, L5).
