AC Milan 0-1 Atalanta: Ederson header seals crucial win for La Dea as Rossoneri's Champions League hopes fade

Atalanta strengthened their grip on a top-four finish in Serie A with a vital 1-0 victory over AC Milan at San Siro on Sunday, thanks to a second-half diving header from Ederson. The result further dims Milan’s fading hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League.
The win propels Atalanta to 64 points, keeping them firmly in third place and four points clear of Bologna, who had earlier stunned league leaders Inter Milan. Milan, meanwhile, remain in ninth with 51 points, making their path to Europe’s top competition increasingly unlikely.
Atalanta controlled possession in the first half, but clear-cut chances were scarce until the final minutes before the break when Luka Jovic fired narrowly wide after turning inside the box. Milan looked more assertive after the restart but failed to convert their momentum into goals.
They were punished in the 62nd minute when Ademola Lookman sent a curling ball into the box, which Raoul Bellanova headed back across goal for Ederson to meet with a clinical diving header beyond Mike Maignan. The goal proved to be the game’s only difference in a tightly contested match.
Lookman continued to pose problems for Milan, having one shot blocked by Youssouf Fofana and another deflected for a corner. He nearly assisted a second goal when he rolled a low ball across the face of goal, but Mateo Retegui couldn’t convert from close range under pressure.
Milan’s late efforts failed to materialize into an equalizer, with substitute Joao Felix dragging a shot wide after a promising run and Lookman again testing Maignan following a break from deep.
As the final whistle blew, Atalanta’s traveling fans celebrated loudly in the stands, while the San Siro echoed with frustration and boos from home supporters, who once again voiced discontent toward the Milan board.
