AC Milan 1-1 Feyernood (1-2 agg): Feyenoord stun Rossoneri to reach Champions League last 16

Feyenoord secured a dramatic place in the Champions League last 16 after holding AC Milan to a 1-1 draw on Tuesday, sealing a 2-1 aggregate victory in their playoff clash. Julian Carranza’s decisive header proved crucial as the Dutch side capitalized on Theo Hernandez’s red card to eliminate the Italian giants.
Milan wasted no time in making their mark, leveling the tie within the first minute as Santiago Gimenez scored against his former club. The early goal ignited the San Siro crowd, but Hernandez’s second-half dismissal shifted the momentum in Feyenoord’s favor. Despite struggling to create clear-cut chances, they made their breakthrough in the 73rd minute when Carranza rose unchallenged to head home a pinpoint cross from Hugo Bueno.
"I'm sick, still, but happy," Carranza admitted to Ziggo Sport. "I didn't feel great, it was something unforgettable to come in and score."
Milan fought to force extra time, with Malick Thiaw coming closest, but Feyenoord held firm. Tempers flared at full-time, with Feyenoord's Givairo Reed receiving a red card after the whistle.
Reflecting on the turning point, Milan’s Kyle Walker told Sky, "The way we were controlling the game in the first half and at the beginning of the second there was only one team on the pitch. Then the referee made his decision (to send off Hernandez) and the game changed."
With their latest upset at San Siro—where they famously lifted the European Cup in 1970—Feyenoord may feel destiny is on their side. They now await either Inter Milan or Arsenal in the last 16, with their opponents to be decided in Friday’s draw.
