AC Milan 1-1 Inter Milan: Nerazzurri snatch last-gasp equalizer in dramatic derby draw against Rossoneri

Inter Milan clawed back from a goal down to secure a thrilling 1-1 draw against AC Milan in the Derby della Madonnina, with Stefan de Vrij netting a stoppage-time equalizer at the San Siro on Sunday. The result denied Inter a chance to temporarily claim the Serie A top spot, leaving them second on 51 points, trailing Napoli by two, while Milan sit eighth with 35 points.

Tijjani Reijnders gave Milan the lead just before halftime, and with the Rossoneri aiming for a third consecutive victory over their city rivals, the match seemed destined for a home win. Inter, however, struck the woodwork three times and relentlessly pushed for an equalizer before finally breaking through in added time.

The game began cautiously, with both teams struggling to maintain possession. Inter had the ball in the net twice in the first half, but goals from Federico Dimarco and Lautaro Martinez were disallowed for offside. Milan eventually broke the deadlock after Yann Sommer’s save from Rafael Leao fell into Reijnders’ path, allowing him to fire into the roof of the net.

Inter emerged with renewed intensity after the break, with Martinez forcing a quick save from Mike Maignan. Another goal was ruled out due to a foul by Denzel Dumfries, while Yann Bisseck’s powerful header struck the upright as the visitors ramped up the pressure.

Simone Inzaghi made full use of his bench, introducing new signing Nicola Zalewski, who had only completed his loan move from Roma the night before. Milan’s defense, featuring debutant Kyle Walker, held firm with the aid of the post, as Marcus Thuram and Dumfries both saw efforts rebound off the woodwork.

With the clock ticking down, Inter’s persistence paid off. A deep cross from Bisseck found Zalewski, who chested the ball into De Vrij’s path, and the Dutch defender smashed home a first-time strike past Maignan to extend Inter’s unbeaten league streak to 17 games.
