AC Milan's Paulo Fonseca expresses satisfaction with team's attitude following victory over Sassuolo

AC Milan's manager, Paulo Fonseca, expressed satisfaction with his team's disciplined performance following their 6-1 victory over Sassuolo in the last-16 of the Coppa Italia at the San Siro on Tuesday.

Milan established a commanding four-goal advantage by halftime, effectively quelling any potential for an upset from the Serie B leaders, which allowed Fonseca to introduce four substitutes at the beginning of the second half.

"We delivered an excellent performance, particularly in the first half, which enabled us to manage our players effectively," Fonseca remarked to Italian broadcaster Mediaset.

"There is nothing to critique; we approached the game with great seriousness. The players exhibited a commendable attitude, and I am quite pleased."

Fonseca implemented eight changes from the squad that secured a 3-0 victory against Empoli over the weekend, and he was encouraged by the response of the players who stepped in.

"I have consistently emphasized the importance of trusting all players, which is why they all participate," Fonseca stated.

"Today, I am very pleased because those who have had less playing time delivered an outstanding performance. They conveyed to me that they are prepared to play whenever needed. That is the feedback I wish to receive."

Fonseca also acknowledged the significance of his players' performance in a match they were favored to win.

"In the past, this has been an issue. The attitude towards stronger teams has always been commendable," Fonseca noted.

"However, the approach towards other teams has often been insufficient. Today, we demonstrated the right attitude."

Fonseca may encounter his former club, AS Roma, in the quarter-finals if they advance past Sampdoria, but for the moment, the Milan manager is concentrating on their upcoming league match on Friday.

"I have not contemplated that possibility," Fonseca said.

"Right now, I am heading home and focusing on the game against Atalanta."
