Adam Scott enjoys his freedom to take control at BMW Championship

Adam Scott of Australia, aged 44, demonstrated remarkable skill by achieving an impressive 9-under 63, securing a three-shot lead at the BMW Championship, the second event in the FedEx Cup playoffs, on Friday.
Scott made his debut on the PGA Tour at Castle Pines Golf Club 24 years ago, marking the beginning of a career that has seen him accumulate 14 victories on the tour, although he has not won in the past four years.
The 2013 Masters champion matched the course record with his flawless round, propelling himself to the forefront of the competition.
"It has been quite some time. I cannot recall the last occasion I recorded a 63 here," remarked Scott, who currently stands at 13-under for the tournament.
"However, it feels gratifying to perform well, proving that I still possess that capability. I hope to achieve another low score this week," he continued.
Securing a position within the top 50 of the FedEx Cup standings not only ensured Scott's participation this week but also guaranteed him entry into the tour's prestigious Signature Events for the upcoming season.
Scott managed to enter the top 50 by posting a final round of 67 at the St Jude Championship on Sunday, and with that pressure alleviated, he expressed a sense of freedom in his play.
"Your mindset shifts significantly. Upon leaving the range, my goal was simply to continue progressing positively, striving to shoot under par and maintain that momentum. By the midpoint of the round, I found myself contemplating how many birdies I could achieve. It is amusing how that transition occurs," he stated.
"I feel as though I have little to lose this week. I cannot fall out of the top 50. I will have a favorable schedule in the Signature Events next year. Naturally, I would love to qualify for East Lake, but my primary desire now is to win this event," he concluded.
The concluding event of the FedEx Cup is the Tour Championship, scheduled to take place next week at East Lake, located near Atlanta.
Adam Scott currently leads by three strokes over Keegan Bradley, who was the overnight leader after posting a 4-under 68, with his first bogey of the tournament occurring on the 18th hole.
Bradley, who is set to captain the USA team in the Ryder Cup in 2025, initially held a one-shot advantage over Hideki Matsuyama after the first round; however, the circumstances had changed significantly by the time he began his round.
Matsuyama had to withdraw due to a back injury, allowing Scott to gain a substantial lead.
"Adam is a world-class Hall-of-Fame caliber player. He performed exceptionally well, and I will need to play at my best to keep pace with him this weekend," remarked Bradley.
Ludvig Aberg from Sweden also positioned himself as a contender for the weekend, matching Scott's impressive 63 with a round that included a bogey on the par-4 third hole and an eagle on the par-5 14th.
Aberg noted that the rain at the conclusion of Thursday's play facilitated more aggressive approaches to the greens.
"The greens were somewhat softer, enabling a more aggressive strategy, which allowed for some leeway," he explained.
"I still felt the conditions were similar. The course is certainly approachable. I felt confident in my hitting, consistently finding the fairways, which allowed for a more assertive approach to the greens," he added.
Alex Noren of Sweden occupied fourth place at 8-under after recording a second consecutive round of 68.
Scottie Scheffler, the FedEx Cup leader, world number one, and Masters champion, faced a challenging day, finishing at even par with three bogeys and a double bogey on the par-4 10th hole.
Scheffler stands at one-under for the tournament, trailing the leader by 12 strokes.
Xander Schauffele, the champion of this year's PGA Championship and British Open, also encountered difficulties, recording five bogeys in his one-over 73.
