Alaves 2-2 Girona: Wasteful visitors settle for point and open door for Barca to take second spot

Girona squandered an away win when Jon Guridi's last-ditch effort earned Alaves a 2-2 draw on Friday, putting the visitors' LaLiga second-place lead in jeopardy.

Girona have 75 points, just two more than Catalan rivals Barcelona, who face Real Sociedad on Monday. Real Madrid have won the league title, with 87 points with four games remaining.

Alaves remain in 11th place with 42 points.

The visitors took an early lead thanks to defender Eric Garcia's towering header off a corner only four minutes in, before Guridi equalised in the 12th with a close-range finish.

Despite Alaves looking more dangerous, Girona regained the lead just before halftime thanks to Yangel Herrera's superb strike into the top right corner.

Michel's side had chances to extend their lead after the break, but Guridi sealed the draw in stoppage time by capitalising on a loose ball in the box.
