Alcaraz cruises into Monte-Carlo Masters Quarter-Final

Carlos Alcaraz continued his clay-court dominance on Thursday, cruising past Daniel Altmaier with a commanding 6-3, 6-1 win to reach his first-ever Monte-Carlo Masters quarter-final.

The 21-year-old, who holds titles at both Wimbledon and Roland Garros, recovered from a brief stumble in the first set before overwhelming his German opponent with blistering shot-making and clinical precision.

Altmaier, ranked 84th, made a spirited start, breaking back at 3-3 to level the opening set. But that would be the high point of his day as Alcaraz—seeded second—reeled off three games in a row to take the set, then powered through the second in just over 30 minutes.

“I’m feeling better and better on this surface,” Alcaraz said post-match. “It’s always special to win here after my early exit two years ago.”

Altmaier couldn’t withstand Alcaraz’s pace, committing 23 unforced errors in contrast to the Spaniard’s crisp shot selection and relentless court coverage.

Quarter-Final Showdown: Alcaraz vs. Fils

Alcaraz now faces Arthur Fils, the rising French sensation who dismantled 2023 champion Andrey Rublev 6-2, 6-3 in his own dominant display.

Fils, 20, has reached his third straight Masters quarter-final in 2024—after solid runs at Indian Wells and the Miami Open. A semi-final finish in Monte-Carlo would mark the biggest breakthrough of his career so far.

📆 Quarter-Final Match: Friday, April 11 – Court Rainier III

With Djokovic & Zverev Out, Is Alcaraz the New Favorite?

With Novak Djokovic and Alexander Zverev suffering early exits, Alcaraz is now the tournament favorite to win his first Monte-Carlo title. His all-court game, mental toughness, and clay prowess make him the man to beat heading into the weekend.

Alcaraz is 13-2 on clay since last season and holds a 5-0 record in ATP 1000 quarter-finals.
