Alcaraz dominates Nishioka to advance to Australian Open third round, expresses satisfaction with form

Four-time Grand Slam champion Carlos Alcaraz, aged 21, expressed his immense satisfaction with his performance following a commanding display at the Australian Open on Wednesday, propelling him into the third round.

The Spanish player, seeded third, demonstrated his dominance against Japan's Yoshihito Nishioka, delivering a decisive 6-0, 6-1, 6-4 victory on Margaret Court Arena in a match that lasted just 81 minutes.

"I believe I played very solidly today," remarked Alcaraz, who claimed titles at Roland Garros and Wimbledon last year but has yet to advance past the quarter-finals in Melbourne.

"I addressed the areas I needed to improve from my first match. I am truly pleased with everything today.

"This is a significant win for me. Winning in straight sets at such a high level is encouraging. I hope to maintain this momentum."

Alcaraz made adjustments to his serve during the off-season and is competing in Melbourne with a lighter racquet, which has yielded positive results. He recorded 14 aces and achieved an impressive 89 percent success rate on his first serve.

"I am very pleased with my serve today. It is an aspect I focused on during the pre-season," he stated.

"I encountered some difficulties in the first round. However, I dedicated additional time yesterday to practice my serve, as I am eager to improve in that area.

"I am delighted that it functioned well today, and I hope to enhance it further in the next round."

He comfortably won his first-round match in straight sets and came out aggressively against the 65th-ranked Nishioka.

The Japanese player struggled to make an impact in the first set, winning only two out of 16 baseline points and a mere four points overall in that set.

Alcaraz unleashed five aces in the second set and achieved a remarkable 91 percent success rate on his first serve, leaving Nishioka with little opportunity.

Although Nishioka attempted to mount a challenge in the third set, the disparity in skill was too significant, making the victory a mere formality.

"The less time you spend on the court in Grand Slams, particularly in the early rounds, the better it is," Alcaraz added.

"Physically, I feel great, and I was focused on minimizing my time on the court."

He is set to face Portugal's Nuno Borges, who triumphed over Australia's Jordan Thompson with scores of 6-3, 6-2, 6-4.

He aims to become the youngest male champion in Australia since Novak Djokovic secured his first of ten titles in 2008. If successful, he will also achieve the distinction of being the youngest man to accomplish a career Grand Slam.
