Alcaraz praises 'crazy' Sinner as the top contender on tour ahead of Rotterdam

Carlos Alcaraz (21) remarked on Sunday that the performance of Australian Open champion Jannik Sinner (23) is "remarkable" as the Spaniard readied himself for his first match since his quarter-final exit in Melbourne.
Alcaraz, currently in Rotterdam where he is the top seed for the ATP tournament commencing on Monday, addressed the media during his first press conference since his defeat to Novak Djokovic on January 21st.
Sinner, who has not lost a set in his last three matches, claimed the Australian Open with impressive authority.
"Jannik is currently the best player," Alcaraz stated. "He has only lost four or five matches over the past year, which is quite extraordinary. There is ongoing debate about who is superior between us. Some argue Jannik is better, while others support me. It remains a topic of discussion.
"However, from my perspective as a tennis player, we must contend with Jannik. He is consistently winning every tournament he enters. His focus is unwavering, and I believe he is indeed the best. In every tournament he participates in, he either reaches the final or secures the title."
At 21, Alcaraz had the opportunity to achieve a career Grand Slam but was defeated in four sets by Djokovic.
"I do not perceive it as a missed opportunity against Novak," Alcaraz explained. "I genuinely aimed to win the tournament and felt capable of doing so, but Novak delivered an exceptional performance.
"Competing against Novak in the quarter-finals of a Grand Slam is quite challenging. It was a solid match. I have endeavored to focus on the positives from that encounter and will now look forward."
In his debut at Rotterdam, Alcaraz will face Dutch wild-card entry Botic van de Zandschulp. The Spaniard noted that his preparations have not been optimal.
"After returning from Australia, I spent a few days at home, but I caught a cold," Alcaraz shared. "I was only able to train for two days before needing to rest until I recovered.
"Nonetheless, being at home, regardless of illness, is always wonderful, especially with family around. It helps refresh the mind and prepares you for travel again."
Van de Zandschulp previously defeated Alcaraz in straight sets during the second round of the US Open last year.
Alcaraz remarked, "He is an exceptionally formidable competitor. The audience will likely support my opponent, but I intend to relish the experience."
