American Tennis Player, Jenson Brooksby faces 18-Month Suspension

An independent tribunal has handed down an 18-month suspension to American tennis player Jenson Brooksby (22), as announced by the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) on Tuesday. This decision stems from Brooksby's involvement in three whereabouts failures within a 12-month period.

Brooksby, who reached a career-high ranking of 33rd last year, had previously voluntarily accepted a provisional suspension. The effective start date of his suspension will be backdated to July 5th.

The ITIA has set the conclusion of this suspension for January 4th, 2025. In response to the allegations, Brooksby reiterated his commitment to clean competition, emphasizing that he has never failed a drug test or used any prohibited substances.

The ITIA clarified that Brooksby acknowledged responsibility for the first and third missed tests but contested the second.

According to ITIA regulations, three missed tests within a 12-month timeframe constitute an anti-doping rule violation.

Brooksby now has a window of 21 days to lodge an appeal with the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) against this decision.

Karen Moorhouse, CEO of the ITIA, stressed the significance of the whereabouts program in upholding the integrity of the sport, stating, "The whereabouts program is a crucial tool in ensuring a fair and clean sport.

Nobody wishes to see athletes inadvertently breach the rules in this manner."
