Amorim reportedly reaches 'verbal agreement' to become next Liverpool manager

There are growing speculations that Ruben Amorim (39) might depart from Sporting in the upcoming season. On Tuesday, Florian Plettenberg, a transfer specialist from Sky Sports, substantiated the rumors by confirming a verbal agreement between the coach and Liverpool.

Amorim, the Portuguese coach, is the frontrunner to replace Jurgen Klopp (56) at Anfield. Ongoing negotiations between the clubs are still taking place.

If the deal goes through, Amorim will sign a three-season contract with Anfield, which will keep him linked to the Reds until 2027. This would mark his first coaching experience abroad.

However, the negotiations with Sporting still need to be finalized for the deal to materialize.

Amorim's current contract with Sporting is set to expire in 2026. According to Fabrizio Romano, the release clause for domestic clubs is 30 million euros (£25.7 million), while foreign clubs would need to pay 20 million euros (£17.1 million).

Furthermore, it has been reported that there is an agreement in place to allow Amorim to leave for a fee of 10 million euros (£8.5 million) if a top club shows interest.

Amorim, a former Portuguese international who has had stints at Benfica, Belenenses, and Braga, is currently in his fifth season as Sporting's coach. He guided the Lions to the title in the 2020/21 season and is currently leading the league this season.
