Anthony Joshua knocks out Jake Paul in sixth round of Miami showdown

Anthony Joshua delivered the decisive ending many expected, knocking out Jake Paul in the sixth round of their heavyweight clash at the Kaseya Center in Miami, though not without early frustration against the YouTube star turned boxer.

The former two-time world heavyweight champion eventually asserted his class with a thunderous right hand that ended the bout, but the fight proved more awkward than anticipated as Paul survived longer than most predictions suggested.

Joshua faces early resistance

From the opening bell, Joshua struggled to impose himself fully on a mobile and elusive Paul, who relied on lateral movement, a busy jab, and frequent clinching to disrupt the rhythm of the British heavyweight.

Paul impressed in the early rounds by avoiding Joshua’s power shots and forcing him to reset repeatedly. On several occasions, Joshua’s attempts to close distance resulted in scrappy exchanges, with Paul often dropping to the canvas under pressure as the referee issued warnings for the untidy nature of the contest.

Despite his size and experience advantage, Joshua found it difficult to land cleanly through the first four rounds, later admitting that the performance was far from perfect.

“It wasn’t the best performance,” Joshua said afterward, acknowledging the challenge posed by Paul’s unorthodox approach.

Momentum shifts in the middle rounds

The fight began to turn in the fifth round. Joshua connected with a sharp uppercut on the inside that visibly unsettled Paul, forcing him into survival mode. Paul had his best moment shortly after, catching Joshua with an overhand right as the former champion stepped in aggressively.

However, the pressure soon became too much. Paul was knocked down late in the round after a series of unanswered shots, taking a knee as Joshua’s power began to tell. Moments later, another right hand sent Paul to the canvas again. Though he managed to beat the count and finish the round, he was clearly fading under sustained pressure.

Sixth-Round finish seals the fight

Early in the sixth round, Joshua landed a right-left combination that forced Paul backward. Smelling the finish, Joshua pressed forward, trapping his opponent against the ropes before unleashing a brutal right hand that connected cleanly with Paul’s chin.

Paul collapsed by the ropes and failed to recover, prompting the referee to wave off the contest and confirm Joshua’s knockout victory.

What comes next for Joshua

While the fight did not provide the early stoppage many fans expected, it reaffirmed Joshua’s power and composure under awkward conditions. Attention now shifts to his future in the heavyweight division, with Joshua openly targeting a long-awaited showdown against Tyson Fury.

For Jake Paul, the bout marked his toughest test yet. Despite the defeat, surviving into the sixth round against a former world champion exceeded expectations and demonstrated his continued commitment to boxing at the highest level.

The spectacle may have divided opinion, but in the end, experience and elite heavyweight power prevailed as Anthony Joshua closed the show in emphatic fashion.
