Arsenal 2-0 Paris Saint-Germain: Havertz and Saka fire Gunners to impressive win over PSG

Arsenal achieved their longest unbeaten streak under Mikel Arteta, extending it to 15 matches (12 wins, 3 draws) with a 2-0 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, showcasing a commanding performance at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners had the first opportunity of the match when Bukayo Saka maneuvered inside from the right flank and sent a threatening shot just past Gianluigi Donnarumma’s goal.

At the opposite end, Riccardo Calafiori remained vigilant, ensuring that Achraf Hakimi could not escape his grasp, making a crucial challenge before Arsenal took the lead in the 20th minute.

Leandro Trossard played a pivotal role, racing down the left wing and delivering a superb cross for Kai Havertz, who headed the ball into the net.

PSG found themselves under sustained pressure, and after a brief moment of relief when Nuno Mendes struck the post and David Raya denied Hakimi, the hosts doubled their advantage.

Saka, after being brought down by Mendes, delivered a free-kick that eluded all players and found its way past Donnarumma, although the goalkeeper could have been more assertive.

Arteta would have been pleased with his team's composed first-half performance, recalling that Arsenal had previously led Leicester City 2-0 at halftime only to draw 2-2.

However, it appeared that the north London side had learned from that experience, as Donnarumma was forced to react swiftly to deny Gabriel Martinelli a third goal.

PSG faced a formidable defense, led by the tireless Gabriel, and the home fans had further cause for celebration shortly after the hour mark when Mikel Merino made his long-awaited return from injury, coming on for Thomas Partey.

Arsenal may have experienced a moment of anxiety when João Neves hit the crossbar and Lee Kang-in's curling shot was deflected by Raya, but that apprehension quickly dissipated as the home team secured a comfortable victory.

Paris Saint-Germain has now faced Arsenal on five occasions (D3, L2), marking the highest number of matches against a single opponent in Europe without achieving a win.

They will return to Ligue 1 action on Sunday evening against OGC Nice, while Arteta's squad aims to capitalize on their recent advancement over the French club in the UEFA Champions League standings by overcoming Southampton on Saturday.
