Arsenal 2-1 Everton: Gunners defeat Toffees but lose out on Premier League title

Arsenal's 2-1 victory over Everton was in vain, as their hopes of winning their first Premier League title in 20 years were dashed on Sunday, the season's final day.

Mikel Arteta's side started the day needing a win and Manchester City failing to beat West Ham United, which few inside The Emirates Stadium expected.

All hope seemed lost when Idrissa Gueye's deflected free kick put Everton ahead and City led 2-0, but Takehiro Tomiyasu levelled before halftime, around the same time West Ham cut the deficit at City.

Arsenal finished the season with six consecutive victories thanks to Kai Havertz's late goal, but they had to settle for second place for the second consecutive season as City won a record fourth consecutive title by defeating West Ham 3-1.

Arsenal finished with 89 points to City's 91.
