Arsenal 3-1 Liverpool: Gunners defeat Reds to move within two points of top spot

Arsenal emerged victorious in their 200th encounter against Liverpool, securing a 3-1 win that marked the end of their three-game winless streak against the Reds. This triumph not only boosted their confidence but also intensified the competition for the Premier League title.
Despite the match starting with a lot of action, neither goalkeeper was truly tested in the opening stages. David Raya made a comfortable save from a floated cross, which sparked a quick counterattack led by Gabriel Martinelli. However, his pass to Bukayo Saka went wide, and Cody Gakpo also failed to find the target for the opposing team.
It took 14 minutes for Arsenal to finally find the missing final touch. Martin Odegaard played a pass to Kai Havertz, who opened up the defense, and Saka was there to finish the move after the initial shot was saved.
After the opener, Arsenal's dominance grew, but they couldn't convert it into a second goal. Odegaard's effort was blocked by Virgil van Dijk, who recovered possession after Trent Alexander-Arnold lost the ball on the edge of his own box.
Although the visitors started to make more of an impact on the game as the half-hour mark approached, they still struggled to win the midfield battle or trouble Raya.
However, just before halftime, Luis Diaz took advantage of indecision between William Saliba and Raya, poking the ball into the net off Gabriel Magalhaes' hand. This completely shifted the momentum in the early stages of the second half, with Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones coming close to scoring.
Arsenal fought back to regain control, with an Odegaard effort deflected into the side netting by Ibrahima Konate, and Gabriel sending a header wide.
Jurgen Klopp made a triple substitution shortly before the hour mark, but his team gifted Arsenal a goal just like Arsenal did in the first half. Van Dijk and Alisson Becker collided while dealing with Gabriel's long ball, leaving Martinelli to calmly slide the ball into the empty net.
In the 88th minute, Konate received his second yellow card and was subsequently dismissed from the match. The visitors' troubles continued as Leandro Trossard's strike slipped through Alisson's legs, securing Arsenal's third consecutive victory.
Mikel Arteta couldn't contain his excitement as he realized that his team had narrowed the gap between them and Liverpool at the top of the Premier League table to just two points.
Not only did the Gunners intensify the competition for the title, but they also handed the Reds their first loss in 12 matches across all competitions.
