Arsenal agree deal to sign Eberechi Eze from Crystal Palace

Arsenal have reportedly reached an agreement in principle with Crystal Palace to sign Eberechi Eze, beating north London rivals Tottenham Hotspur to the signature of the England international. The deal is said to be worth around £68 million ($91 million), the same figure as the player’s recently expired release clause.

Tottenham had been leading the race for the 27-year-old attacking midfielder, but Arsenal have moved quickly following news of an injury setback for Kai Havertz. The German international featured in Arsenal’s 2-1 win over Manchester United at the weekend but was absent from Wednesday’s open training session at the Emirates.

With concerns over Havertz’s fitness, the Gunners appear ready to bolster their creative options by swooping for Eze, who was once part of Arsenal’s academy before being released at the age of 13.

Despite growing speculation, Palace manager Oliver Glasner insisted on Wednesday that both Eze and captain Marc Guehi remain fully committed to the club. The pair started in Palace’s 1-1 draw with Chelsea at the weekend and are expected to feature again in the club’s Europa Conference League play-off against Fredrikstad.

“Most of you will be surprised that they will start again tomorrow because of all the rumours,” Glasner said. “But again, they are committed. They have a contract here, they play a crucial part, and they will continue to do so as long as they are with us.”

Eze is tied to Palace until 2027, while Guehi’s deal runs until next year.

Arsenal’s ambitions and context

Arsenal are gearing up for another title push after finishing second behind Liverpool last season. Manager Mikel Arteta has already strengthened his squad this summer, and Eze’s arrival would add flair and versatility to the attack as the Gunners prepare for a busy campaign across four competitions.

For Spurs, who ended a turbulent season in 17th place despite winning the Europa League, missing out on Eze would be another bitter setback in the transfer market.

Why Eze fits Arsenal

Eze has developed into one of the most dynamic playmakers in the Premier League since joining Palace from QPR in 2020. His ability to glide past defenders, operate between the lines, and score from range has made him one of the division’s most coveted talents.

Reuniting with Arsenal, the club that released him as a teenager, would mark a remarkable full-circle moment in his career.
