Arteta delighted with his Arsenal's dominant 5-1 victory over Sporting

Arsenal's manager, Mikel Arteta, sought a decisive victory for his team on Tuesday, and they delivered with an impressive 5-1 away win against the formidable Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League.
Arteta commended his players for their astute ball management and resilience against a Sporting side that had recently triumphed over Manchester City with a score of 4-1 and had secured 17 victories in their last 18 matches across all competitions.
"I am extremely pleased; this is a significant result against a formidable opponent," Arteta remarked. "We aimed to make a statement. I sensed a positive energy prior to the match, but it is essential to translate that into performance."
The first half was outstanding, providing a solid foundation for their victory. "We were exceptionally clever and effective in our attacking strategy. This win is crucial for us," he added.
Arsenal appeared invincible in the first half, leading 3-0 at halftime. However, an early goal from Sporting in the second half shifted the atmosphere until Bukayo Saka restored Arsenal's momentum with a fourth goal.
"The atmosphere shifted when Sporting scored; they gained confidence, but we demonstrated our character by regaining control of the ball and defending as needed. The fourth goal was pivotal," Arteta explained.
"We must relish these moments, competing against such teams in this tournament. I was satisfied with the fluidity of our performance."
Prior to this match, Arsenal had experienced a brief period without a win, having drawn three consecutive games before securing a 3-0 victory against Nottingham Forest in the Premier League over the weekend.
Arteta emphasized the importance of maintaining consistency throughout the season to achieve success. "Consistency is vital; if you aspire to win championships, you must continue to secure victories. Today presented a different challenge, but we managed it effectively. Now, we must look ahead," he stated.
Arsenal's next match is scheduled for Saturday, where they will face West Ham United in the Premier League.
