AS Roma 0-2 Atalanta: High-flying La Dea defeat Giallorossi to continue unbeaten run

Atalanta narrowed the gap to the top of Serie A to just one point following a hard-fought 2-0 victory against AS Roma at the Stadio Olimpico, thereby extending their unbeaten streak against the capital club to five matches (W4, D1).

Traveling to the capital, Atalanta aimed to apply pressure on Napoli at the top of the Italian league, while Roma sought to revitalize their season after suffering four defeats in their last five league encounters.

Roma's determination nearly earned them an early advantage when Leandro Paredes attempted a shot from outside the penalty area, compelling Marco Carnesecchi to make an early save. However, the initial momentum quickly dissipated, and clear scoring opportunities became scarce for both teams.

Manu Kone's long-range effort narrowly missed the target during Roma's next opportunity, but the most notable aspect of their first-half performance was their ability to effectively contain Atalanta's dynamic attack.

This, however, seemed to invigorate his teammates, as Marten de Roon broke the stalemate with a powerful strike from outside the box, aided by a fortunate deflection that allowed the Dutchman to find the back of the net past Mile Svilar.

Roma appeared unable to bounce back from that setback, ultimately facing another loss as two former players collaborated to extend the visitors' lead. Juan Cuadrado delivered a precise pass to Nicolo Zaniolo in the penalty area, allowing the Italian to power a header into the net.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s squad remains unbeaten in 13 matches across all competitions, maintaining their chase for the Scudetto.

On the other hand, this result is yet another bitter pill for Roma, whose failure to find the back of the net has left them in 15th place, suffering four consecutive defeats and teetering dangerously close to the relegation zone.
