AS Saint-Etienne 1-6 Paris Saint-Germain: PSG crush Saint-Etienne to move closer to Ligue 1 title

Paris St Germain extended their unbeaten run and edged closer to securing the Ligue 1 title with a commanding 6-1 victory over relegation-threatened Saint-Etienne on Saturday. A standout performance from Desire Doue, who netted twice, helped PSG maintain their dominance at the top of the table.

PSG now sit comfortably on 71 points, holding a 21-point lead over second-placed AS Monaco, who secured a 2-1 victory against Nice. With just seven games remaining, the reigning champions can clinch their fourth consecutive Ligue 1 title with at least a draw against Angers next week.

Despite a strong start from Saint-Etienne, who took the lead through Lucas Stassin’s header, PSG quickly responded. Goncalo Ramos equalized from the penalty spot after being fouled by Florian Tardieu.

The second half saw PSG take full control, with Khvicha Kvaratskhelia putting them ahead just five minutes after the restart. Doue then struck three minutes later, finishing off an assist from Bradley Barcola. Joao Neves added a fourth in the 62nd minute, and Doue found the net again shortly after.

Reflecting on the victory, Doue acknowledged the team’s slow start but praised their response after the break. "The first half wasn't good for us. We conceded a goal quickly, but the most important thing is that we managed to pull ourselves together in the second half and come away with the win," he said.

Saint-Etienne, facing the threat of relegation, believed they had won a penalty when Lucas Stassin went down in the box following a challenge from Nuno Mendes, but a VAR review overturned the decision.

Substitute Ibrahim Mbaye sealed the emphatic win by scoring PSG’s sixth goal just before the final whistle, leaving the visitors on the verge of another Ligue 1 triumph.
