Aston Villa add to Spurs' woes with FA Cup fourth round triumph over Postecoglou's side

Aston Villa's Jacob Ramsey scored within the opening minute, and Morgan Rogers added a goal in the second half, leading to a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur. This win propelled Villa into the FA Cup fifth round for the first time in a decade, during the match held at Villa Park on Sunday.

The home team took just 58 seconds to find the net, as Rogers advanced forward with little resistance and delivered the ball to Ramsey. The 23-year-old's shot was directed at Antonin Kinsky, who managed to get both hands on the ball, but it ultimately slipped through and into the goal.

Rogers extended Villa's advantage in the 64th minute when Pedro Porro failed to clear a cross from Leon Bailey, allowing Rogers to capitalize on the loose ball and score from close range, marking his 11th goal of the season across all competitions for Unai Emery's squad.

Marcus Rashford, on loan from Manchester United and returning from injury since December 12th, made his debut just two minutes after the second goal, receiving a warm welcome from the home supporters.

In the 91st minute, Tottenham's new signing Mathys Tel, acquired from Bayern Munich, managed to score by flicking in Dejan Kulusevski's cross. However, the hosts maintained their lead to secure the win.

Earlier on Sunday, Premier League leaders Liverpool faced a surprising exit from the FA Cup, losing 1-0 to second-tier Plymouth Argyle, while fellow Premier League team Wolverhampton Wanderers triumphed over Championship side Blackburn Rovers with a 2-0 away victory.

Tottenham's defeat leaves them with only the Europa League as a potential avenue for silverware this season, following their elimination from the League Cup by Liverpool, who advanced to the final against Newcastle United with a 4-1 aggregate victory in the semi-final.

Injuries have plagued Spurs, who currently sit 14th in the Premier League, six places and ten points behind Villa. The team squandered several opportunities during a disappointing match for manager Ange Postecoglou, including a missed chance by Son Heung-min in the first half, who, after receiving a cross from Mikey Moore, shot directly at goalkeeper Emi Martinez from close range.

Spurs displayed increased energy in the second half, with defender Kevin Danso presented with an excellent opportunity late in the match; however, he was unable to convert Porro's low cross, sending the ball wide of the post.

Aston Villa's most recent appearance in the fifth round occurred during the 2014-15 season, when they advanced to the final but were defeated 4-0 by Arsenal.
