Aston Villa score four past AZ Alkmaar in Netherlands

Aston Villa secured an impressive victory in the Netherlands, triumphing over AZ Alkmaar 4-1 at the AFAS Stadion, putting an end to the Cheeseheads' remarkable 29-game unbeaten home run in European competitions.
Before kick-off, all four teams in Group E of the UEFA Europa Conference League (UECL) shared identical records: one win, one loss, and zero goal difference. Despite this, Aston Villa faced a challenging task, but the English side initiated the match in a flawless manner by taking the lead within the opening fifteen minutes.
Villa applied high pressure, forcing a turnover deep within the opposition's territory. Boubacar Kamara's pass fortuitously deflected into the path of Leon Bailey, who skillfully controlled the ball and placed it into the bottom corner of the net. Despite protests from the Dutch team regarding a potential handball by Bailey, the goal was allowed to stand.
The situation worsened for AZ as they found themselves trailing by two goals midway through the first half. Once again, the hosts lost possession, but this time it was John McGinn who capitalized, delivering a superb pass to Youri Tielemans.
Despite a shaky first touch, Tielemans managed to guide the ball past Mathew Ryan. Villa capitalized twice more on turnovers in the opponent's box, and they narrowly avoided conceding as Kamara was dispossessed on the edge of the area, but Vangelis Pavlidis failed to add to his impressive 14-goal season, shooting high and wide. This ensured that Villa maintained their two-goal lead going into halftime.
The first goal came after Bailey was sent through on goal, and when his shot was parried, Ollie Watkins was there to tap in the rebound.
Unai Emery's team quickly extended their lead to four goals as Bailey once again played a crucial role, sliding the ball across the box for McGinn to poke it into the net.
While Villa fans chanted "easy," AZ sought to regain some pride and managed to score a superb goal.
Bruno Martins Indi played a long ball across the pitch to Ibrahim Sadiq, who expertly controlled the ball and fired a clinical finish past Emiliano Martínez.
However, AZ's goal ultimately served as nothing more than a consolation, as Villa comfortably saw out the remainder of the match. This victory allowed Emery to rest some of his players in preparation for their Premier League clash with Luton Town on Sunday, as his side took control of the group.
