Atalanta 1-1 Juventus: Stalemate sees La Dea and Juve's winless runs continue

Atalanta and Juventus concluded their Serie A match in a stalemate, with the final score being 1-1 at Gewiss Stadium. This result leaves both teams without a victory in their last four matches across all competitions.

Following a defeat in the Supercoppa Italiana semi-final, both teams returned to league play last weekend with a draw, and neither side demonstrated any significant improvement at the outset of this match, as there were no shots on target until the 25th minute. Michele Di Gregorio successfully dealt with a curling attempt from Ademola Lookman, while home goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi made a routine save from a shot by Weston McKennie.

Although La Dea dominated possession, it was the unbeaten side in Serie A that came close to scoring on two occasions before the halftime break. Kenan Yildiz's shot set up Nicolas Gonzalez, whose curling effort narrowly missed the target, followed by Yildiz sending a volley wide from a corner.

After a strong finish to the first half, Thiago Motta’s team began the second half with intensity, launching four attempts within a span of four minutes. Following efforts from Yildiz, Gonzalez, and Federico Gatti, Pierre Kalulu's header from a corner struck the inside of the post and was miraculously cleared by Carnesecchi before the ball fully crossed the line.

Undeterred by this near miss, Kalulu responded perfectly by receiving a through ball from McKennie and calmly slotting it past the goalkeeper, giving Juventus the lead nine minutes into the second half.

Gian Piero Gasperini’s team reacted positively and nearly equalized around the hour mark when Lookman’s shot was blocked on the line by Teun Koopmeiners. This was followed by a flurry of attempts exchanged between McKennie and Ederson during a tense phase of the match.

Just when it seemed Juventus had withstood the pressure, Atalanta found the equalizer with 12 minutes left to play. A deep cross from Raoul Bellanova was headed back across the goal to substitute Mateo Retegui, who managed to stoop low and direct the ball past Di Gregorio.

Atalanta was presented with an opportunity to secure a comeback in the closing moments when the Old Lady's defense failed to contain Nicolo Zaniolo's powerful advance; however, Di Gregorio intervened with an astute save.

The match concluded a streak of 16 domestic home fixtures in which Atalanta had managed to score twice, while Juventus extended their unbeaten run to seven matches against the Bergamo team. Nevertheless, a missed opportunity in injury time by Yildiz resulted in a 13th league draw for the season.
