Atalanta 5-0 Frosinone: Hosts romp past sorry Frosinone to move into top five

Gian Piero Gasperini's Atalanta team extended their undefeated streak to five games in all competitions following a commanding display against Frosinone. The aspiring contenders emerged as comfortable 5-0 victors in Monday's Serie A encounter.

Atalanta has had a fantastic start to the year 2024, as they began their quest to secure a spot in European competitions with an impressive performance in Bergamo. Within the first 15 minutes of the match, La Dea raced to a three-goal lead, setting the tone for the rest of the game.

The goal-scoring spree began in the eighth minute when Mateus Lusuardi committed a foul on Emil Holm inside the penalty area, resulting in a penalty kick.

Teun Koopmeiners confidently converted the penalty, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way and giving Atalanta an early advantage.

Just five minutes later, Ederson capitalized on a defensive lapse and doubled Atalanta's lead by tapping the ball into the net from close range.

The home crowd at Gewiss Stadium didn't have to wait long for the third goal, as Charles De Ketelaere showcased his skills by bursting past the Frosinone defense and smashing a shot off the crossbar and into the goal.

With a comfortable lead established in the first half, Atalanta eased off the gas pedal in the second period. However, manager Gasperini made a tactical substitution, bringing on Luis Muriel to add more firepower to the attack.

Muriel came close to scoring the fourth goal with a powerful shot that narrowly missed the target, leaving the Frosinone goalkeeper scrambling to make a save.

The fourth goal eventually arrived late in the game, as Davide Zappacosta took advantage of poor defending from the visitors and found himself with plenty of space inside the penalty box.

He expertly curled a right-footed shot into the far-right corner, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance. In added time, Holm sealed the victory for Atalanta by scoring the fifth goal, completing a dominant performance by the hosts.

Frosinone finds themselves deeply embroiled in a fierce relegation battle, as they currently sit just two points above the relegation zone in the Serie A standings.

Meanwhile, Atalanta's fortunes are on the rise as they narrow the gap to Fiorentina, who occupy the fourth spot, to a mere one point.

With the possibility of securing a Champions League qualification spot in 2024, Atalanta's ambitions are steadily growing.
