Athletic Bilbao 3-0 Elfsborg: Athletic thrash visitors to continue impressive Europa League run

Athletic Club has now recorded only one defeat in their last 15 matches across all competitions, maintaining an unbeaten streak in the UEFA Europa League following a commanding 3-0 victory over Elfsborg at San Mames.
Given the Basque team's recent performance, which included a victory against their rivals Sociedad last weekend, they entered the match exuding confidence.
It was therefore not surprising when they took an early lead just minutes into the game, as young talent Adama Boiro, making only his second start this month, struck a left-footed shot following a well-executed corner.
The young left-back continued to make impressive overlapping runs alongside star player Nico Williams, enabling the winger to cut inside and create significant disruption in the central areas.
After 25 minutes, the Spaniard assisted Benat Prados for the Basque side’s second goal, delivering a perfectly weighted chipped cross that was headed in by the midfielder.
Following this early double strike, the outmatched Swedes showed resilience, managing to prevent further damage before the half-time break.
Despite the interval, Athletic maintained their dominance, adding a third goal less than 10 minutes after the restart.
Boiro was again pivotal, delivering a precise pass to Gorka Guruzeta, who made no mistake with his first-time shot from within the penalty area.
The third goal seemed to deflate the previously determined Elfsborg, who had gained confidence through 30 minutes of solid defensive play. This allowed Ernesto Valverde to implement significant substitutions as a composed Athletic side controlled possession in the closing minutes.
In reality, they always appeared poised to secure a fourth consecutive Europa League victory for only the third time in their history; the last occasion they achieved this feat, they progressed all the way to the final.
