Atletico Madrid 0-3 Barcelona: Joao Felix on target as Barca cruise past Atleti to move up to second

Barcelona concluded a successful week by defeating Atletico Madrid 3-0 in LaLiga at the Metropolitano Stadium, stretching their undefeated streak to 10 matches (7 wins, 3 draws).

Atletico Madrid entered the game with just two victories in their previous six league matches. Despite this, their confidence was evident after their midweek UEFA Champions League win over Inter Milan, as Diego Simeone's players immediately launched an attack on the Barca box.

The aggressive attacking style nearly paid off for Atleti, as they gained possession inside Marc-Andre ter Stegen's box. However, Pablo Barrios' shot narrowly missed the target.

Xavi's Barcelona team also secured a victory against Italian opponents in the Champions League during the week. Nevertheless, their lack of intensity against Atleti resulted in the Catalan side being outplayed in the first half-hour. Despite this, the Blaugrana managed to take a one-goal lead into halftime.

Ilkay Gundogan found Robert Lewandowski in the box, and the Polish forward passed the ball to Joao Felix, who calmly scored against his former club.

Xavi had a nearly flawless first half, executing a smash-and-grab strategy. However, he was sent off after receiving two consecutive yellow cards for expressing his dissatisfaction towards the referee.

In an attempt to change the dynamics of the game, Simeone made substitutions, bringing in Antoine Griezmann and Memphis Depay. Unfortunately for them, Barcelona extended their lead within two minutes of the second half.

Raphinha found Lewandowski in the penalty area, and despite his initial touch taking him away from the goal, his exceptional goal-scoring ability allowed him to bury the ball into the bottom corner from a difficult angle.

Atleti responded almost immediately with Marcos Llorente's volley from outside the box, but Ter Stegen made a strong save and quickly recovered to deny Memphis' shot on the rebound.

Despite Atleti's resurgence, the visitors sealed the match with a third goal. Lewandowski once again played a crucial role, providing his second assist of the night with a powerful cross into the box, which was met by a towering header from Fermin Lopez.

Barcelona's victory propelled them to second place as they head into the international break, benefitting from Girona's defeat to Getafe. Despite the slim chances of a title challenge, the Catalans are now eight points adrift of league leaders Real Madrid, with an upcoming El Clasico clash scheduled for April.
