But the hosts regained control, and Griezmann sealed the win in stoppage time with a stunning lob over Greif, shortly after Rodrigo Riquelme rattled the crossbar from a free kick.

This goal ended Griezmann’s LaLiga drought, with his last league goal dating back to Atletico’s 4-3 win over Sevilla in December.

The win sees Atletico Madrid move up to second place in LaLiga with 48 points, just one behind leaders Real Madrid, who face Espanyol later on Saturday. The Madrid derby at the Santiago Bernabeu next weekend will be a crucial clash in the title race.

Meanwhile, Mallorca’s struggles continue, extending their losing streak to five consecutive defeats across all competitions. Still seventh in the standings with 30 points, they haven’t scored in 2025 and are on their longest losing run since April 2022.

Having taken charge in 2011, Diego Simeone became just the eighth coach to reach 500 LaLiga games, and the first to do so with a single club. Under his tenure, Atletico has consistently challenged for domestic and European honors, and this latest win highlights their resilience as they aim for another strong league campaign.
