Atletico Madrid 5-0 Las Palmas: Atleti cruise past visitors in rampant display

Atletico Madrid halted their three-game winless streak by dominating Las Palmas with a 5-0 victory, further solidifying their impressive La Liga home record this season.

Marcos Llorente's double within the first 20 minutes sent a warning to Las Palmas, who had not conceded a first-half goal in any of their 10 league victories this season.

The Gran Canaria-based team suffered two quick blows due to poor defending, as Llorente capitalized on a ricochet before being set up by Angel Correa to score Atleti's second goal.

This marked Llorente's sixth La Liga goal of the season, and Atleti's scoring streak against the same league opposition continued, with a total of 44 goals in their last 21 league head-to-head matches. As a result, Atleti comfortably held the advantage going into halftime.

Despite their second visit to the Civitas Metropolitano, Garcia Pimienta's men failed to mount a comeback after the restart.

Correa took center stage this time, scoring a brace. He first capitalized on a disoriented Amarillos backline to score a superb finish, and later converted a penalty after a cynical challenge by Marvin Park.

This successful spot-kick marked Atleti's eighth consecutive penalty conversion, their longest streak since September 2013.

Memphis Depay sealed the deal for the hosts by scoring their fifth goal with a brilliant shot into the top corner, completing a stellar performance.

Las Palmas couldn't find a consolation goal either, failing to score in their sixth away match against top-half clubs.

This defeat, their heaviest away loss this season, dashes their hopes of securing a European spot for the first time since 1977/78. However, with 13 rounds remaining, it is still a realistic possibility.
