ATP roundup: Alexander Zverev sets career high in wins

Top seed Alexander Zverev (27) reached a significant milestone by advancing to the quarter-finals of the Erste Bank Open, defeating Marcos Giron (31) with a score of 6-2, 7-5 on Wednesday in Vienna, Austria.

During the 73-minute match, Zverev delivered 10 aces and successfully converted all three of his break point opportunities, marking his 61st singles victory of the season, surpassing his previous career high achieved in 2018.

He is set to face sixth-seeded Italian Lorenzo Musetti in the next round, who progressed due to a walkover after France's Gael Monfils withdrew because of illness.

In another match, Italy's Matteo Berrettini secured his place in the quarter-finals with a hard-fought 6-3, 6-7(6), 6-3 win over fifth-seeded Frances Tiafoe, lasting 3 hours and 3 minutes.

In first-round encounters, No. 3 seed Grigor Dimitrov from Bulgaria triumphed over China's Zhizhen Zhang with a score of 6-4, 7-5, while Brandon Nakashima eliminated No. 4 seed Tommy Paul, winning 6-4, 6-4.

At the Swiss Indoors Basel, top-seeded Andrey Rublev of Russia advanced to the quarter-finals after defeating Alejandro Tabilo of Chile with a score of 7-6(3), 6-1.

Rublev recorded 14 aces and successfully defended the only break point he encountered. His next opponent will be either local favorite Stan Wawrinka or sixth-seeded Ben Shelton. At 39 years old, Wawrinka's first-round victory over France's Adrian Mannarino made him the oldest match winner in the tournament's history.

Belgium's David Goffin triumphed over No. 5 seed Ugo Humbert of France to reach the quarter-finals, winning 3-6, 6-1, 7-6(7) in a match that lasted 2 hours and 27 minutes.

In first-round matches, Spain's Roberto Bautista Agut eliminated No. 2 seed Casper Ruud of Norway with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-3, while No. 8 Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada defeated Argentina's Sebastian Baez 7-5, 6-1.
