ATP roundup: Bonzi stuns Ruud in Metz; Norrie and Shapovalov earn victories

France's Benjamin Bonzi, aged 28, achieved a commendable victory over second-seeded Casper Ruud, 25, from Norway, with a score of 6-4, 6-4 in the second round of the Moselle Open held in Metz, France.

Bonzi successfully converted 33 out of 39 first-serve points and did not face any break points, while also outpacing Ruud with a total of 32 winners to 16.

He is set to compete in an all-French quarter-final against Quentin Halys, who triumphed over fellow French player Pierre-Hugues Herbert with a scoreline of 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

In other matches, Great Britain's Cameron Norrie advanced by defeating France's Luca Van Assche with a score of 6-3, 3-6, 6-1, while Belgium's Zizou Bergs overcame France's Hugo Gaston, winning 6-4, 7-5.

Additionally, China's Yunchaokete Bu secured a victory against the Netherlands' Jesper De Jong, finishing 6-4, 7-6(1).

At the Belgrade Open in Serbia, Canada's Denis Shapovalov caused an upset in the second round by defeating fifth-seeded Nuno Borges from Portugal with a score of 6-2, 6-4.

Shapovalov excelled on his serve, winning 91% of his first-serve points (31 out of 34) and achieving a 9-1 lead in aces. He will face Australia's Christopher O'Connell in the quarter-finals, who won against Germany's Daniel Altmaier with a score of 6-3, 6-1.

In other notable matches, third-seeded Francisco Cerundolo from Argentina defeated Russia's Roman Safiullin with a score of 6-4, 6-4. Serbia's Laslo Djere triumphed over Croatia's Duje Ajdukovic, winning 6-1, 7-6(8), while Hungary's Fabian Marozsan emerged victorious against Serbia's Dusan Lajovic with a score of 6-3, 7-5.
