ATP roundup: Murray finally wins again, Alcaraz picks up an injury

The 18-year-old Mensik claimed victory over fifth-seeded Alejandro Davidovich Fokina of Spain by winning 70 per cent of his first serves in a 7-6, 6-4 match that lasted 93 minutes.

O'Connell, on the other hand, defeated sixth-seeded Jan-Lennard Struff of Germany with a score of 6-4, 6-4, setting up a second-round match against Finland's Emil Ruusuvuori, who beat Italian Giulio Zeppieri 7-6, 7-5.

Frenchmen Hugo Grenier and Richard Gasquet both emerged victorious in their first-round matches, while Alexandre Muller was not as lucky. Grenier won 7-6, 7-5 against Germany's Maximilian Marterer, and Gasquet secured a 6-4, 6-4 win over Kazakhstan's Alexander Shevchenko.

Former world number one Murray of Great Britain ended a six-match losing streak with a 6-1, 7-6 victory over Muller. Murray is now set to face Mensik in the second round.

In the Rio Open, top seeds Carlos Alcaraz and Nicolas Jarry were both eliminated in their first-round matches. Alcaraz retired due to a right ankle injury with the score tied 1-1 against Brazilian wild-card entrant Thiago Monteiro. Jarry, on the other hand, lost 6-1, 1-6, 7-5 to Germany's Yannick Hanfmann in one hour and 54 minutes.

Hanfmann secured the win with a match-clinching service break while Jarry was serving to force a tiebreaker. Other first-round winners included Argentines Sebastian Baez, Facundo Diaz Acosta, and Mariano Navone, as well as Chile's Cristian Garin, Serbia's Dusan Lajovic, and Brazilian qualifier Felipe Meligeni Alves.

Yoshihito Nishioka from Japan swiftly defeated Italian qualifier Flavio Cobolli in just 49 minutes at the Los Cabos Open in Mexico. Nishioka dominated the match, not allowing Cobolli any break points and converting six out of seven break opportunities.

He also excelled on Cobolli's second serve, winning 18 out of 20 points. Other players who advanced include Rinky Hijikata from Australia, Jordan Thompson from Australia, Nuno Borges from Portugal, Marcos Giron from the US, Emilio Nava from the US, and Aleksandar Vukic from Australia.
