Augsburg 2-3 Bayern Munich: Harry Kane on target as defending champions close in on league leaders

Injury-hit Bayern Munich won 3-2 at Augsburg in the Bavarian derby on Saturday, closing the gap on Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen to two points.

First-half goals from 19-year-old Aleksandar Pavlovic and Alphonso Davies, as well as one from the league's top scorer Harry Kane, helped Bayern reach 47 points.

Leverkusen lead the standings with 49 points after missing numerous chances and drawing 0-0 with visitors Borussia Moenchengladbach.

Champions Bayern, whose winger Kingsley Coman suffered a torn knee ligament and will be out for several weeks, conceded two late penalties, one of which Augsburg converted in stoppage time.

The hosts made a stronger start and had the ball in the net before a VAR review overturned the goal.

Bayern were missing nine players due to injury or international duty, including Konrad Laimer, Joshua Kimmich, and Dayot Upamecano, all of whom were injured in the midweek 1-0 home victory over Union Berlin.

They took the lead, however, when teenager Plavlovic turned in the box and scored his first league goal in the 23rd minute.

A minute later, Coman needed assistance leaving the field, putting additional strain on an already depleted squad.

Davies rifled in a low shot deep into first-half stoppage time to give the Bavarians their second goal.

Augsburg responded seven minutes later, when Ermedin Demirovic was left unmarked in the box and beat Manuel Neuer with a glancing header to reduce the deficit.

Kane scored his 23rd league goal in the 58th minute after a lengthy VAR review, restoring Bayern's two-goal lead, before Augsburg earned an 87th-minute penalty.

Neuer picked the right corner and palmed Sven Michel's penalty wide, but Demirovic beat him with another penalty kick in stoppage time to add late drama to the game.

Augsburg's defeat dropped them to 12th place with 21 points.
