Australia head coach McDonald signs three-year contract extension

Andrew McDonald will continue to serve as Australia's head coach until at least the conclusion of 2027, following the extension of his contract, as announced by cricket officials on Wednesday.

Since taking the helm in 2022, McDonald has successfully led the team to victories in the World Test Championship and the one-day World Cup, as well as securing an away win against England to retain the Ashes.

Currently, Australia holds the top position in the ICC Test rankings and is ranked second in both one-day and T20 formats, despite experiencing an early exit from the T20 World Cup in June.

"Andrew has demonstrated exceptional capabilities as a men's head coach, achieving remarkable results while also establishing a robust coaching team, effective methodologies, and a conducive environment for optimal team performance," stated Nick Hockley, CEO of Cricket Australia.

"We are pleased to extend his contract for an additional two years."

McDonald, a former Test all-rounder, initially assumed this prominent role on an interim basis after the unexpected resignation of Justin Langer.

"The professionalism, dedication, and expertise of my fellow coaches and the broader staff have been instrumental in our significant achievements," McDonald remarked on Wednesday.

"Equally important is the culture of unity, trust, and inclusivity that has been fostered."

"International cricket presents numerous challenges for all teams, and I take great pride in how our group, including players and staff across all formats, has successfully navigated these challenges together."

Australia is set to face India in a highly anticipated five-match home Test series commencing on November 22nd in Perth.
