Australian Open champion Sinner powers past De Minaur to Rotterdam crown

Jannik Sinner, the winner of the Australian Open, showcased his dominance once again as he triumphed in the Rotterdam Open. Despite facing a resilient defensive performance from Alex De Minaur, Sinner emerged victorious with a score of 7-5, 6-4 in an intense and top-notch clash.
The Italian top seed's win extended his unbeaten streak to 15 matches, which includes his victory in Melbourne, and propelled him to a career-high third place in the world rankings.
De Minaur, seeded fifth, had previously lost to Sinner in six matches but entered this game in excellent form, matching his opponent in the early stages.
Despite De Minaur's valiant defense, Sinner's consistency and power from both sides of the court eventually broke through, resulting in a break of serve at 2-2 after some thrilling rallies.
The crucial moment in the first set occurred in the 10th game, with De Minaur managing to break back after saving two set points with remarkable retrieving skills.
A lengthy rally at game point saw Sinner sprawled on the floor, gasping for air after a failed attempt to return a powerful backhand drive from his opponent.
However, Sinner quickly recovered and seized his own break points in the following game, converting on the second opportunity as De Minaur made an ill-advised decision to leave a volley that landed on the baseline.
Serving for the set once again, Sinner closed it out without any errors, much to the delight of the enthusiastic Rotterdam crowd. The intensity continued at the beginning of the second set, with De Minaur retrieving everything Sinner threw at him, resulting in both players exchanging breaks to level the score at 3-3.
A fatigued De Minaur committed an error with his backhand into the net, granting Sinner another break of serve in the subsequent game. This time, the Italian held his serve to move within one game of claiming the title.
Sinner's superior strength proved to be too much for De Minaur, who fought valiantly until the end. Despite De Minaur's gritty performance, Sinner emerged victorious with a 6-4 finish. The two players, who are not only fierce competitors but also close friends and former doubles partners, shared a warm embrace at the net. The enthusiastic Rotterdam crowd rewarded them with a resounding ovation, appreciating the thrilling match they had just witnessed.
De Minaur's journey to the final was filled with excitement, particularly his intense semi-final against Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov, which he regarded as his "best match on tour."
On the other hand, Sinner's path to the final was relatively smooth. He received a fortunate break when Milos Raonic, a seasoned Canadian player plagued by injuries, withdrew at the beginning of the second set during the quarter-final. In the semi-finals, Sinner secured a straightforward victory over local talent Tallon Griekspoor.
