Azerbaijan GP Qualifying: Lando Norris to start 15th as Hamilton drops to pit lane

Lando Norris, McLaren's contender for the Formula 1 title, has ascended one position on the starting grid for the upcoming Azerbaijan Grand Prix, following a power unit change in Lewis Hamilton's car by Mercedes.

The seven-time world champion Hamilton had initially qualified in seventh place, just behind Red Bull's championship leader Max Verstappen. However, he will now commence the race from the pit lane alongside Alpine's Esteban Ocon due to exceeding his power unit allocation.

Additionally, Mercedes made adjustments to Hamilton's car setup, as noted in a report by FIA technical delegate Jo Bauer, which has been referred to the stewards for further consideration.

Norris qualified in 17th position on Saturday, hindered by a yellow flag that interrupted his final flying lap during the initial phase. He subsequently advanced to 16th after Alpine's Pierre Gasly was disqualified for a fuel flow irregularity.

Currently, Norris holds the second position in the championship standings, trailing Verstappen by 62 points, making Sunday’s race a crucial opportunity for damage limitation.

Ferrari's Charles Leclerc will start from pole position, with McLaren's Oscar Piastri alongside him on the front row, at a circuit known for its favorable overtaking opportunities.
