Bam Adebayo delivers 83-point performance, second-highest scoring game in NBA history

Bam Adebayo produced one of the greatest scoring displays in basketball history on Tuesday night, pouring in 83 points to lead the Miami Heat to a 150–129 victory over the Washington Wizards.

The extraordinary performance now stands as the second-highest single-game scoring total in NBA history, surpassed only by Wilt Chamberlain’s legendary 100-point game in 1962.

In doing so, Adebayo moved past Kobe Bryant’s iconic 81-point performance in 2006, long considered one of the greatest individual scoring nights in league history. Speaking after the game, Adebayo reflected on the moment with disbelief.

It’s Wilt, me, then Kobe. That sounds crazy,” he said.

A dominant scoring explosion

Adebayo’s scoring surge unfolded from the opening tip. He poured in 31 points in the first quarter, immediately setting the tone for a historic night at the Kaseya Center.

By halftime, the Heat star had already accumulated 43 points, and he entered the final quarter with 62 points, putting the historic mark within reach. His final stat line highlighted both volume and efficiency:

  • 83 points
  • 20-for-43 field goals
  • 7-for-22 three-pointers
  • 36-for-43 free throws

The performance powered Miami to a comfortable victory and extended their strong recent form.

Free Throw Records Shattered

Adebayo’s night was not only remarkable for its scoring total but also for his record-breaking performance at the free-throw line. He made 36 free throws, setting a new NBA record for both free throws made and attempted (43) in a single game.

The previous record for attempts, 39, had been held by Dwight Howard, while the record for makes was 28, previously shared by Chamberlain and Adrian Dantley. Adebayo’s relentless ability to attack the basket forced Washington into repeated fouls, turning the charity stripe into his personal scoring machine.

Miami Heat break Franchise Record

The historic night also rewrote the record books for Miami. The previous single-game scoring record for the franchise belonged to LeBron James, who scored 61 points in 2014.

Adebayo’s 83-point masterpiece not only shattered that mark but also helped the Heat improve to 37–29 on the season, pushing them to six consecutive victories and their best position above .500 so far this year.

Heat overcome injury absences

Miami delivered the impressive win despite missing several key players.

The team was without:

  • Norman Powell (groin)
  • Tyler Herro (quadriceps)
  • Nikola Jović (back)
  • Andrew Wiggins (toe)

Even with the short-handed lineup, Adebayo’s offensive explosion ensured the Heat maintained full control of the game. Forward Simone Fontecchio contributed 18 points to support the dominant performance.

Wizards continue difficult stretch

For Washington, the defeat extended a challenging run. The Wizards have now lost nine consecutive games, continuing their struggles this season.

Rookie standout Alex Sarr led the team with 28 points, while Will Riley added 22 and Jaden Hardy contributed 17. Washington was also without star guard Trae Young, who missed the game due to right knee injury management.

A performance for the record books

Scoring 80 points in an NBA game is one of the rarest feats in professional basketball history. Only a handful of players have ever approached that territory.

With his 83-point masterpiece, Adebayo now sits alone in second place on the league’s all-time single-game scoring list — trailing only Chamberlain’s historic century. For Miami fans at the Kaseya Center, the night instantly became one of the most memorable moments in franchise history.
