Bangladesh move into T20 World Cup Super-Eights with win over Nepal

Bangladesh secured a spot in the Super Eights of the T20 World Cup by defeating Nepal with a 21-run victory on Sunday. The match took place at Arnos Vale, where Bangladesh struggled to score, managing only 106 runs all out in 19.3 overs.
However, Tanzim Hasan Sakib's impressive spell of 4-7 put Nepal in a difficult position at 26-5. Despite Nepal's recovery, Mustafizur Rahman's 3-7, which included a wicket maiden in the penultimate over, led to Nepal being bowled out for 85 in 19.2 overs.
Bangladesh finished second in Group D, following South Africa, and will now compete in Group 1 of the Super Eights alongside Afghanistan, India, and Australia.
Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto expressed his satisfaction with the team's performance in the qualifying round, particularly highlighting the bowling unit's strength.
He praised Tanzim Hasan Sakib's performance and emphasized the hard work put in by the fast bowlers in recent years, which has contributed to the team's success.
Shanto emphasized the importance of the bowling unit in this format and expressed hope that they will maintain their form in the upcoming matches.
Tanzim proved to be a formidable force against Nepal's top order, displaying his skill in generating pace and bounce. In just his second over, he took two crucial wickets, dismissing Kushal Bhurtel with a full toss and removing Anil Sah for a duck.
Later on, Tanzim had a stroke of luck when Nepal captain Rohit Paudel hit a wide delivery straight to Rishad Hossain at point.
Among Nepal's batsmen, only Aasif Sheikh managed to settle in, scoring 17 runs from 14 balls before being caught by Shakib Al Hasan at cover off Mustafizur's bowling.
After Tanzim dismissed Sundeep Jora, Nepal found themselves in a dire situation at 26-6. However, they managed to recover thanks to a 52-run partnership between Dipendra Singh Airee (25) and Kushal Malla (27).
Unfortunately for Nepal, Malla fell victim to a slower ball from Mustafizur, skying a catch to Shanto. Nevertheless, Nepal still had a chance with 22 runs needed from the final two overs.
Mustafizur's wicket maiden in the penultimate over sealed the game for Bangladesh, leaving Nepal defeated when Abinash Bohara was trapped lbw by Shakib in the final over.
It was a disappointing outcome for Nepal, considering their bowlers had initially dominated the match. Sompal Kami, in particular, made an impact by dismissing Tanzid Hasan with the very first ball of the innings.
Tanzid's attempt to dance down the track and pull the ball resulted in a mistimed shot, leading to an easy catch and bowled for Sompal.
In the second over, Shanto was clean bowled by spinner Singh Airee.
Paudel stuck with the impressive Kami for a third over in his opening spell, and his decision paid off when he claimed the crucial wicket of Liton Das.
The pitch offered significant turn for the spinners, causing Bangladesh to struggle in finding any momentum.
Sandeep Lamichhane bowled Jaker Ali with a brilliant googly, leaving Bangladesh at 75-8 in the 16th over. This marked Lamichhane's 100th T20I wicket.
Rishad Hossain chose to take an aggressive approach, smashing a six and a four to score 13 runs off seven deliveries. However, the partnership between Mustafizur and Taskin Ahmed in the end added 18 runs, pushing the total past the three-figure mark.
"We performed exceptionally well as a bowling unit. However, our batting unit, particularly the top-order batsmen, could have performed better," mentioned Paudel.
