Barcelona 1-4 Paris Saint-Germain (Agg: 4-6): Mbappe double sends PSG into Champions League semi-finals amid Barca implosion

Paris Saint-Germain successfully turned the tables on Barcelona, winning 6-4 on aggregate to secure a spot in the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Furthermore, their 4-1 triumph in Catalonia highlighted a curious streak where the home team has failed to win in the last four matchups.
This match has consistently produced exciting games in recent years, and it was evident from the beginning that this one would be no exception.
Barcelona quickly increased their lead from the first leg with a goal just 12 minutes in. Lamine Yamal skillfully maneuvered past Nuno Mendes and passed the ball back for Raphinha to score.
Shortly after, Raphinha delivered a sharp cross that Mendes struggled to clear, and Robert Lewandowski's shot went over the crossbar. Kylian Mbappe then had two attempts in quick succession, but both were instinctively denied.
In the 29th minute, Paris Saint-Germain were given a glimmer of hope when Ronald Araujo was shown a red card for fouling Bradley Barcola as the last man. Yamal was sacrificed to bring Inigo Martinez into the defense.
Barcola, determined to bring his team back into the game, delivered a cross that Ousmane Dembele skillfully put into the Barcelona net, despite facing vehement boos from his former fans.
Undeterred by the negative reception, Dembele came incredibly close to scoring a second goal just before halftime.
Barcelona faced two more scares shortly after the second half began. Achraf Hakimi's shot was awkwardly saved by Marc-Andre ter Stegen, and Fabian Ruiz narrowly missed the target with his strike.
However, PSG continued to push forward and equalized in the 54th minute through a corner routine that ended with Vitinha finding space and scoring a precise shot into the bottom corner.
Xavi Hernandez, the Barcelona boss, was subsequently dismissed from the touchline due to his loss of composure. The situation worsened for the hosts when Joao Cancelo made a reckless challenge on Dembele, resulting in a penalty that Mbappe calmly converted, giving the visitors the advantage in the overall score.
Despite the setback, the hosts made an effort to push forward. However, Gianluigi Donnarumma showcased his skills by making an impressive save from Lewandowski's strike, while Marquinhos rushed in to clear the ball ahead of Ferran Torres.
Shortly after Raphinha's corner hit the crossbar, Mbappe found the back of the net, securing a victory for PSG in a UEFA tie after losing the first leg at home for the first time in eight attempts. This win keeps their hopes alive for the coveted Champions League title they desire.
Additionally, PSG denied Barcelona their chance to reach the semi-finals in this competition for the first time since 2019. The Blaugrana failed to advance despite winning the first leg away from home in European competition, a feat they have achieved only three times in 40 occasions.
