Bastianini wins British Grand Prix sprint, Bagnaia crashes

This achievement came as two-time MotoGP champion Francesco Bagnaia was unable to extend his lead in the world championship due to a crash.

Bastianini, who qualified in third position, seized the lead from championship rival Jorge Martin of Prima Pramac Racing on the sixth lap.

"The lap time was incredibly fast, and the sprint was exhilarating! This is my first win of the year, and I am extremely pleased. My pace was strong. Silverstone is one of my favorite tracks," remarked Bastianini, who has now ascended to third place in the championship standings.

Martin, who started from fourth, surged ahead to take the lead on the opening lap, overtaking pole-sitter Aleix Espargaro. With his podium finish, the Spaniard narrowed the gap to Bagnaia to just one point in the championship ahead of the race on Sunday.

"It was truly enjoyable to compete here in Silverstone. I was pushing as if it were qualifying, but ultimately, Enea was exceptional and stronger than I was... I hope to secure first place tomorrow," Martin stated.

Aprilia's Espargaro, who set a new lap record in the closing moments of qualifying to earn his second pole position of the season, faced relentless pressure from Martin before ultimately finishing in third place.
