Bayer Leverkusen 0-2 Bayern Munich (0-5 agg): Kane shines as Die Roten overpower Die Werkself to reach UCL quarter-finals

Harry Kane delivered another standout performance, scoring and assisting as Bayern Munich secured a 2-0 victory over Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League last-16 second leg on Tuesday. The win sealed a dominant 5-0 aggregate triumph, setting up a quarter-final showdown with Inter Milan next month.

Having netted twice in Bayern’s 3-0 first-leg win, Kane continued his prolific form by tapping in from close range in the 52nd minute. The goal marked his 10th of the Champions League campaign, making him the first English player to hit double digits in a single European Cup season. The England captain later provided a pinpoint one-touch assist for Alphonso Davies, who drilled home Bayern’s second in the 71st minute.

"A really good performance," Kane said. "From the first minute, we didn’t want to be a team who dropped off and defended the lead. We wanted to be on the front foot, put pressure on, and create chances to win the game. We did that in the first half and had the better chances. Then, second half, we knew they had to come out and try something and we punished them."

Facing Bayern for the fifth time this season, Leverkusen struggled to impose themselves, especially without the creativity of injured midfielder Florian Wirtz. They came closest through a Patrik Schick header late in the first half but lacked the attacking edge to trouble the visitors.

Bayern remained in control, and three minutes after the restart, Michael Olise saw a deflected shot narrowly miss the target. Moments later, Kane capitalized on sloppy defending, meeting a Joshua Kimmich cross to put the tie beyond doubt. Leverkusen, now on a three-game losing streak across all competitions, managed their first shot on target in the 62nd minute but failed to mount a comeback.

The Bavarians continued to press forward, and in the 71st minute, Davies latched onto Kane’s precise assist to double their lead. Bayern could have added more in the closing stages, with Kane firing wide in a one-on-one situation and Jamal Musiala rattling the crossbar before hitting the post minutes later.

Bayern, who also lead the Bundesliga by eight points over reigning champions Leverkusen, now turn their attention to a high-stakes quarter-final clash against Serie A leaders Inter Milan. The Italian giants, who last won the Champions League in 2010 by defeating Bayern in the final, remain on course for another treble-winning campaign.
