Bayern Munich 1-0 Paris Saint-Germain: Dembele sees red as Bayern battle past PSG

Bayern Munich secured a crucial 1-0 victory against Paris Saint-Germain, bolstering their standing in the UEFA Champions League (UCL) and marking their fourth consecutive head-to-head triumph in this tournament.

Matvey Safonov was chosen over Gianluigi Donnarumma and was immediately tested, successfully deflecting a corner from Joshua Kimmich before thwarting powerful attempts from Jamal Musiala and Leroy Sané.

After initially weathering Bayern's pressure, Paris Saint-Germain began to find their rhythm as the first half progressed; however, Ousmane Dembélé's effort rolled harmlessly into the hands of Manuel Neuer.

In search of a spark in what had become a closely contested match, Kingsley Coman skillfully maneuvered through defenders and into the penalty area, but his shot went wide just before the half-hour mark.

At the other end, Warren Zaïre-Emery squandered a prime opportunity with a poor shot, while Dembélé managed to create space against Kim Min-jae, forcing Neuer into a solid save, though João Neves sent the follow-up wide.

PSG's momentum was abruptly halted in the 38th minute when Safonov's weak punch from Kimmich's corner allowed Kim to head the ball into the net.

The situation could have worsened for the visitors shortly thereafter, as Coman sprinted past Hakimi and sent a desperate attempt just over the crossbar. Safonov then responded well to shots from Kimmich and Sané, maintaining the one-goal deficit as the teams headed into halftime.

Just before the hour mark, Dembélé had a chance to equalize, but his shot was blocked by Alphonso Davies. Following this, he received a second yellow card for a challenge on the full-back, having already been cautioned for dissent earlier in the match.

PSG persisted in their determined quest for an equaliser despite facing a setback, with Lee Kang-in entering the match and promptly delivering a well-placed free-kick that Nuno Mendes failed to convert, sending it wide.

Neuer subsequently executed an excellent pass that initiated a sequence of play, which ended with Coman shooting over the bar, while Safonov made a remarkable save, deflecting Musiala’s shot onto the post.

Neves then missed the visitors' best opportunity late in the match, shooting over the goal, as Bayern managed to maintain their lead, securing their seventh consecutive victory across all competitions and achieving back-to-back wins in the UEFA Champions League.

This result positions them just one point shy of the automatic qualification spots, while PSG remains outside the play-off positions, having not secured a win in their last four continental matches.
