Bayern Munich 2-2 Borussia Dortmund: Bayern and Dortmund play out thrilling draw in Der Klassiker

Bundesliga front-runners Bayern Munich and Borussia Dortmund shared the spoils in an action-packed second half, finishing 2-2 in a pulsating edition of Der Klassiker on Saturday. The result keeps Bayern six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga table with just five matches remaining in the season.
The Bavarians now sit on 69 points, maintaining a comfortable lead over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen, who were held to a goalless draw by Union Berlin earlier in the day.
Bayern dominated the first half at home, generating numerous scoring chances. Dortmund keeper Gregor Kobel was instrumental in keeping the score level, denying Harry Kane on two occasions and blocking a close-range strike from Michael Olise in the 40th minute.
Despite Dortmund failing to register a single shot on target before halftime, they stunned the Allianz Arena just three minutes after the restart. Maximilian Beier was left unmarked at the far post and headed home the opener, giving the visitors the lead.
"Until the first goal ... we created chances and the game was more or less positive for us," Bayern coach Vincent Kompany told a press conference.
"After the first goal it became a Cup game. I would buy a ticket to watch a game like this but as a coach you want a little bit more control.
But we wanted to be six points ahead of Leverkusen at the end of the weekend and we have that."
Bayern immediately pushed for a response. They nearly equalised when a clearance from Dortmund’s Waldemar Anton looped over Kobel and struck the crossbar. Just four minutes later, the hosts found their breakthrough. Raphael Guerreiro slotted in a low strike to level the match in the 65th minute, before Serge Gnabry capped off a blistering solo run with a spectacular 35-metre goal to give Bayern the lead.
Dortmund, aiming to break into the top four and secure Champions League qualification, responded with determination. In the 75th minute, Anton capitalised on a rebound to score after Jonas Urbig parried Serhou Guirassy’s acrobatic attempt.
With 42 points, Dortmund currently sit eighth in the Bundesliga, six points behind the Champions League spots. They’ll host Barcelona on Tuesday in the return leg of their Champions League quarter-final, looking to bounce back from a heavy 4-0 defeat in the first leg.
"We have a tough game on Tuesday," said Dortmund coach Niko Kovac. "We know the situation. We want to win that game.
(In the Bundesliga) I hope to continue this run (with two wins and a draw from the last three matches). We still have points to earn."
