Bayern Munich 3-2 VfL Wolfsburg: Goretzka double secures win for hosts, extends Bundesliga lead

Bayern Munich extended their lead at the top of the Bundesliga standings with a thrilling 3-2 victory over VfL Wolfsburg on Saturday, thanks to a brace from Leon Goretzka. The win propelled the Bavarians to a seven-point advantage over second-placed Bayer Leverkusen.

The match began with early chances for Bayern, as Leroy Sane hit the crossbar within the first three minutes. Goretzka gave the hosts the lead in the 20th minute, scoring with a 22-meter shot that bounced in off the post.

Wolfsburg responded quickly, equalizing just four minutes later through Mohamed Amoura, who found the net with their first opportunity. However, Bayern regained the lead in the 39th minute when Michael Olise unleashed a powerful long-range strike.

Bayern thought they had extended their advantage in first-half stoppage time when Joshua Kimmich put the ball in the net from a Kingsley Coman assist, but the goal was ruled out for a handball.

After the break, Bayern continued to press, and Goretzka struck again in the 61st minute, heading in off the post to make it 3-1. However, the hosts missed several chances to put the game out of reach, with Coman particularly guilty of squandering a golden opportunity when he shot wide with only the goalkeeper to beat.

In a tense finale, Wolfsburg reduced the deficit in the 88th minute when Amoura netted his second goal after a brilliant run by substitute Tiago Tomas. Despite this late scare, Bayern held on for the win.

With their fourth consecutive league victory, Bayern Munich moved to 45 points, seven ahead of Leverkusen, who play later on Saturday against Borussia Moenchengladbach. Wolfsburg remain in seventh place with 27 points.

Bayern will now turn their attention to their upcoming Champions League match against Feyenoord on Wednesday.
