Benjamin Mendy sues Manchester City over unpaid wages

This action stems from his contractual period during which he faced serious allegations of sexual offences in 2021. The revelation came from Mendy's legal representative on a Monday announcement.

The French international has taken his case to the Employment Tribunal, seeking compensation for the duration extending until the conclusion of his contract with the English champions in June. The claim, reportedly valued in the multi-million-pound range, is an endeavor to recover the income that Mendy alleges he did not receive during this time frame.

This legal move follows Mendy's legal victory in a British court, where he was found not guilty of one count of rape and one count of attempted rape in July. Earlier in January, he had been acquitted of six counts of rape and one count of sexual assault, accusations that had been levied by multiple women.

Nick De Marco, Mendy's legal counsel, confirmed his representation of Mendy in this substantial claim for what he terms as "unauthorised deductions from wages." In an email statement to Reuters, De Marco highlighted Manchester City FC's alleged failure to remunerate Mendy from September 2021 onwards, a period that continued until the expiration of his contract in June 2023. The statement emphasized that this non-payment coincided with the period during which Mendy faced charges, all of which resulted in subsequent acquittals.

Upon reaching out to the club for a response, Reuters reported that Manchester City declined to comment on the matter.

Mendy, who currently plies his trade at Ligue 1 side Lorient, initially joined Manchester City from AS Monaco in 2017 in a transfer deal that amounted to around 52 million pounds ($64.80 million).
