Berrington anchors Scotland to T20 World Cup win over Namibia

Captain Richie Berrington showcased his leadership skills as he guided Scotland to a commanding five-wicket victory over Namibia in Group B at the T20 World Cup.
Despite their previous match against England being abandoned due to weather conditions, Berrington's composed innings of 47 not out off 36 balls, supported by the aggressive Michael Leask's quickfire 35 off 17 balls, propelled Scotland to a winning total of 157 for five with nine balls remaining.
Their impressive partnership of 74 runs for the fifth wicket overshadowed Gerhard Erasmus' all-round performance for Namibia, who had top-scored with 52 in their total of 155 for nine. Erasmus also contributed with two wickets for 29 runs in his four overs, causing Scotland to stumble at 73 for four in the 11th over.
This victory marks Scotland's first-ever triumph over Namibia in a T20 International and places them at the top of the group standings with three points from two matches. The group also includes defending champions England and 2021 winners Australia.
Reflecting on the win, an ecstatic Michael Leask expressed his delight, stating, "I don't think we'll ever forget this moment. It's an incredible feeling." He acknowledged the significance of the victory, particularly considering their previous encounter with Namibia where Scotland had lost three wickets in the first over.
Leask's role in providing impetus to the scoring rate is one he is accustomed to, saying, "My job is simple: hit the ball hard, find the gaps, and if it's in the right position, send it out of the park."
Erasmus found it difficult to accept, considering his overall contribution, that J.P. Kotze was included at the top of the order for this match. However, Erasmus was well aware of his role when he came to the crease in the fourth over, with his team struggling at 19 for two after choosing to bat first.
"I feel good about contributing in all aspects of the game, but it's even better when we win. We need to regroup from this and come back stronger," Erasmus stated.
Erasmus played a crucial innings of 31 runs off 31 balls, including five fours and two sixes, which helped his team recover and set a competitive total in the next ten overs before he was dismissed by Leask.
Scotland, on the other hand, owed their comeback to the impressive performances of the two seam-bowling Brads – Wheal and Currie. They managed to restrict Namibia from reaching a total closer to 170, especially with David Wiese, their hero from the previous match, at the crease.
Wheal, who dismissed Kotze in the first over, returned to take the wickets of Wiese and wicketkeeper-batsman Zane Green (28), finishing with the best figures of three for 33.
Currie (two for 16), who opened the bowling with Wheal, also played a crucial role in keeping the Namibians in check as they lost four wickets in the final two overs.
