Besiktas claim their first points of the Europa League campaign with a stunning victory over Lyon.

Beşiktaş J.K. not only survived but also excelled, delivering a surprising defeat to Olympique Lyonnais, who registered 30 attempts on goal without scoring.

The Turkish team's 1-0 triumph marked their inaugural victory in this season's UEFA Europa League (UEL) and abruptly halted Lyon's streak of five consecutive wins across all competitions.

With the intention of ascending to the top of the Europa League group standings while relegating their opponents to the last position, Les Gones controlled the first half at the Parc Olympique Lyonnais. However, despite launching 15 shots at the Beşiktaş goal, they could not secure the opening score.

Midway through the first half, the match momentarily turned into a contest between VAR and Alexandre Lacazette, with the latter being denied twice. The former Arsenal striker believed he had given his team the lead when he converted a cross from Corentin Tolisso, only for the goal to be disallowed due to Tolisso's marginal offside position in the buildup.

Just three minutes later, referee Harm Osmers awarded a penalty when Lacazette was brought down by Tayyip Talha Sanuc in the Beşiktaş penalty area. However, following a review by the video assistant referee, the decision was revised to a free-kick, as the contact was determined to have occurred just outside the box.

After failing to register a shot on target in the first half, Beşiktaş briefly gained the upper hand in the early moments of the second half. Nevertheless, they soon found themselves under intense pressure as Lyon lamented their inability to convert chances once more.

Lacazette first struck the legs of Ersin Destanoglu from close range, and shortly thereafter, Said Benrahma hit the crossbar with only the goalkeeper to beat.

In stark contrast to the home side's squandered opportunities, the Kara Kartallar capitalized on their limited chances. Just minutes after Ciro Immobile struck the post following an unconventional save by Lucas Perri, Gedson Fernandes seized a threaded pass from Rafa Silva and executed a precise low shot into the bottom corner, securing the victory.
