Bisseck receives first Germany call-up as Nagelsmann unveils changed squad

Germany boss Julian Nagelsmann has called up Inter Milan defender Yann Aurel Bisseck has been included in the squad for the upcoming Nations League quarter-final match against Italy, marking his first selection, while Nadiem Amiri makes a return after a five-year hiatus.

Bisseck, who represents Germany at the youth level, has participated in 29 matches across all competitions this season and is familiar with Milan's San Siro, the venue for the first leg on March 20th. The return match is scheduled to take place three days later in Dortmund.

Conversely, Amiri last donned the German national team jersey in 2020. He has received a call-up following an impressive season with Mainz, where he has contributed seven goals and three assists, playing a crucial role for the team currently positioned third and vying for Champions League qualification.

Additionally, seven other players are making a comeback to the squad, including Karim Adeyemi from Borussia Dortmund and Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich. However, Aleksandar Pavlovic, Florian Wirtz, and Kai Havertz will be unavailable due to injuries.

"Although we have to cope with some absences, we generally have a very good squad," Nagelsmann said.

"We chose these players out of conviction and tried to replace the lack of quality with quality, with players who are eager to play.

"The quarter-final against Italy is very important for us. These are two games that we absolutely must and want to play positively."

The quarter-final presents an additional incentive, as the victorious team will have the opportunity to host the semi-finals and finals of the Nations League in June.

If Germany secures victory in this matchup, the games will take place in Munich and Stuttgart; conversely, if Italy emerges triumphant, Turin will be considered as the host city.
