Boise State Triumphs Over San Diego State 34-31, Ashton Jeanty Shines with 205 Rushing Yards, 2 Touchdowns

In an electrifying Mountain West Conference opening game, Ashton Jeanty delivered a career-best performance, rushing for a whopping 205 yards and scoring two touchdowns, leading Boise State to a thrilling 34-31 victory over San Diego State on Friday night.

Jeanty's standout performance didn't end with his touchdowns; he also showcased his heroics by recovering an onside kick after San Diego State's late-game scoring drive.

Quarterback Taylen Green also played a pivotal role, throwing a touchdown pass and adding another touchdown on the ground, contributing to Boise State's triumphant night. This win marked the Broncos' 24th consecutive conference opener victory, with 13 of those coming in the Mountain West Conference.

For the Aztecs, Jalen Mayden displayed impressive versatility, throwing for 241 yards and a touchdown, while also amassing 85 rushing yards and a score. Despite their valiant efforts, San Diego State suffered their third consecutive loss, with the previous two defeats coming against now-ranked Pac-12 teams.

Jeanty's second touchdown, with just two minutes remaining, seemed to seal the game for Boise State. However, the Aztecs staged a rapid response, as Mayden scored on a 10-yard run with just 42 seconds left on the clock. It was in this critical moment that Jeanty showcased his heroics once again, making a decisive impact with the kickoff.

Jeanty's standout performance brought back memories of his freshman year when he delivered a remarkable 178-yard performance against North Texas in last season's Frisco Bowl.

The game began with an explosive kickoff return by Christon Kenan for San Diego State, covering 71 yards. However, Boise State's defense had other plans and managed to stop Mayden at the one-yard line, resulting in a fumble into the end zone. Boise State's Andrew Simpson pounced on the fumble, preventing San Diego State from capitalizing on the early momentum.

Despite this setback, San Diego State's defense held firm, and a 36-yard punt return by Dez Malone set the stage for Mayden's 34-yard touchdown pass to rookie Baylin Brooks.

Throughout the game, both teams took turns scoring, with Boise State eventually tying the game at 17 with a late field goal. Boise State continued to build momentum, adding another field goal and Green's 10-yard touchdown run, ultimately securing a 27-17 lead after three quarters of play.
