Bolivia 0-0 Uruguay: La Celeste hold on for stalemate away at Bolivia in high altitude

Bolivia's hopes of qualifying for their first FIFA World Cup in 32 years are fading after a goalless draw against Uruguay, who have managed only one victory in their last nine matches (D6, L3).
Following defeats for both teams the previous week, a palpable tension enveloped the Estadio Municipal de El Alto, which stands at an altitude of 4,100 meters, making it one of the highest football stadiums globally.
Uruguay began to gain more possession as they adjusted to the high altitude. Rodrigo Bentancur had the first opportunity for the visitors but failed to find the target, allowing Bolivia to take control of the match.
Despite several half-chances that posed little threat to Uruguay's goalkeeper, Sergio Rochet, Hector Cuellar had the clearest chance of the first half when he was found in the box from a corner kick. Unfortunately, his shot went just over the crossbar.
The home team ended the first half with greater possession but could not capitalize on their dominance against La Celeste, who did not register a single shot on target in the first 45 minutes.
Both coaches made substitutions at halftime, but these changes did not significantly impact the game, as neither team could seize control or create meaningful scoring opportunities.
Bolivia began to regain control, with Ramiro Vaca attempting a long-range free kick, but Rochet was equal to the task, saving it and conceding a corner.
The home side edged closer to breaking the deadlock when, in the 69th minute, Gabriel Villamil nearly caught Rochet off guard with a shot from the edge of the box, but the Uruguay goalkeeper was saved by the post as the ball struck the woodwork.
Ultimately, neither team could find the crucial goal, resulting in their first draw in ten encounters. Bolivia remains winless in five matches (D2, L3), while Uruguay has secured just one win in their last nine outings (D6, L3).
