Borussia Dortmund 2-3 Barcelona: Super-sub Ferran Torres bags brace to lead Barca past Dortmund in five-goal thriller

FC Barcelona secured a 3-2 victory over Borussia Dortmund in the UEFA Champions League, thanks to three goals scored in the second half, thereby extending their unbeaten head-to-head record to three wins and two draws against the German team.

The first half was largely dominated by Barcelona, who failed to capitalize on a significant opportunity to take the lead in the 15th minute. Lamine Yamal delivered an outstanding outside-of-the-boot cross to Raphinha, but the latter misfired, sending the shot wide of the target.

Dortmund posed little threat aside from a wayward effort from Marcel Sabitzer, and they owed their first-half clean sheet to the impressive performance of goalkeeper Gregor Kobel.

The Swiss international made two crucial saves, first denying Yamal from the edge of the box and then executing a remarkable stop against Jules Koundé.

The second half commenced with both teams displaying high intensity and urgency. Dortmund initially found the net within five minutes, as Jamie Gittens broke through the Barcelona defense and assisted Serhou Guirassy for a tap-in, only for the goal to be disallowed due to offside.

This missed opportunity proved costly for the hosts, as Barcelona quickly countered, with Raphinha finding the back of the net after receiving a pass from Dani Olmo.

Guirassy continued to pose a threat and earned a penalty on the hour mark when he was fouled in the box by the inexperienced Pau Cubarsi. The Guinean striker confidently converted the penalty, prompting coach Flick to implement a triple substitution.

Two of the substitutes combined effectively to restore Barcelona's lead, as Fermín López struck a powerful shot from the edge of the area, which Kobel saved, but Ferran Torres was present to convert the rebound, marking his third goal in as many matches.

Guirassy had a golden opportunity to equalize immediately after the restart but inexplicably headed over from close range. He redeemed himself shortly thereafter when Iñaki Peña made a hasty exit from his box, allowing Pascal Groß to assist Guirassy, who calmly slid the ball into the net.

Dortmund exerted pressure in search of the decisive goal; however, this approach exposed their defense. Barcelona capitalized on this vulnerability during a counterattack, with Yamal assisting Torres, whose precise shot secured crucial UEFA Champions League points for Flick's team.

This victory elevates the Catalans to second place, while Dortmund falls to ninth, trailing eighth-place LOSC Lille by one point.
